How to write successful ERC Starting Grant applications

Join us in Malmö on August 26 to learn best-practice strategies for planning and writing clear, accurate, coherent and compelling applications for funding from the ERC Starting Grant scheme.

What you will learn

Competition for ERC funding is fierce. It is vital that you have an ambitious, ground-breaking research programme and a clear, concise, coherent and compelling proposal.

In this intensive, interactive workshop, you will learn how to:

  • Frame research projects and grant applications
  • Identify and define ground-breaking, high-risk/high-gain research goals
  • Map out impact pathways
  • Plan and structure the B1 and B2 parts of the application
  • Argue for the ground-breaking and high-risk/high-gain nature, potential impact, and feasibility of your proposed research programme
  • Use narrative and linguistic techniques for concise, coherent, complete and compelling writing
  • Develop and use graphical items effectively

The workshop is interactive, with discussions and exercises. At the end of the workshop you will also receive our template with detailed guidance for writing the B1 and B2 parts of the application.

Intended audience

This workshop is for researchers in the physical, life and earth/environmental sciences that are about to apply for an ERC Starting Grant.

What our clients say

“Elevate helped us in preparing a major funding proposal for a five-year, policy-oriented sustainability science research program. Elevate helped us to decide on our focal messages, structure the proposal to support that clear focus, and helped immensely with sharpening the text itself, getting rid of jargon and keeping the narrative flow. The proposal was funded (€2.5M), with very positive review comments. I would certainly recommend the Elevate team – they have such a strategic perspective on the whole scientific process, with experience and insight that goes well beyond ‘just’ science communication.”
