Crafting a scientific story that makes an impact

We first explore what impact is and how it can be made and measured, following which we underscore the importance of context and story-telling. Using insights from neuroscience and drama theory, we elaborate on the components and structure of an engaging story.

Elements and structure of a successful grant application

Building on the insights from the first module we teach how to organize a grant application to clearly frame and contextualize the proposed research. This assures that reviewers can quickly gauge its novelty, feasibility, significance and potential impact. Finally, we discuss examples of applications for funding from national and/or European funders.

Writing with structure and flow

We teach effective writing principles to achieve coherence and flow at the sentence, paragraph and section levels. This helps improve the clarity and readability of the grant application.

“I wish I’d had this workshop before I wrote my first grant. Having a clear structure in mind could have saved me a lot of agony! I feel more confident conveying my ideas convincingly now.”
