In this interactive workshop Ninad and Dan discuss the role of media in bridging science and society; they also discuss how to frame, pitch and write news stories, press releases and opinion pieces. The workshop can be tailored to your needs to include one or several modules.

Media and society
This module provides an overview of various types of media, how they work and how you can use them to communicate your work and/or inform policy.
Identifying and crafting an engaging story
We teach how you can use engrossing narratives to communicate scientific findings and engage with a wide range of stakeholders. We discuss the ingredients of a good story, the criteria for newsworthiness, and how to write good news articles and press releases.

Commentaries and op-eds
Engaging with policy involves more than communicating scientific facts: it entails shaping opinion and helping set the policy agenda. We discuss framing and writing, the importance of timing and relevance, and how to make actionable recommendations.
