DanStem at the University of Copenhagen approached us in advance of an on-site evaluation by an international scientific panel set up by the Center’s funder, the Novo Nordisk Foundation (NNF). Specifically, DanStem wanted our help in framing its institutional identity and developing two documents: one that evaluated the Center’s performance and another that charted a strategy for its next phase.

We helped frame DanStem’s institutional identity, synthesize its accomplishments into a self-evaluation report and mapped its next phase into a strategy document.

  • Self-evaluation report (80p) and accompanying appendices (126p)
  • Strategy document (30p)
  • Draft vision and mission statements, strategic objectives, and USPs

We helped DanStem (the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Stem Cell Biology) to frame its identity and develop self-evaluation and strategy documents in advance of the Center’s evaluation by an international scientific panel.

Facilitation and institutional identity
We first reviewed DanStem’s annual reports and other documents that provided an overview of the Center’s history and achievements. With this understanding, we prepared and moderated an on-site facilitation workshop with the Center’s management and key academic and communications staff. This workshop helped revise the Center’s vision, mission, strategic objectives to reflect its present identity and position in the landscape of stem-cell research. The workshop also helped identify unique selling propositions (USPs), synthesize key achievements and cement a conceptual and organizational framework for current and future research at the Center.

Self-evaluation and strategy documents
Drawing on the facilitation workshop and follow-up work, we helped DanStem to develop a comprehensive self-evaluation report and a strategy document that were to be the basis of the Center’s evaluation in 2019. This work included:

  • Developing the editorial and creative concepts for the documents to guide the multiple DanStem staff that would be involved in drafting. This included various templates for the main documents as well as the appendices.
  • Editorial feedback on, and substantive editing of, DanStem’s draft documents to ensure clarity, coherence and consistency in the narrative
  • Developing illustrations and designing graphics and covers
  • Copyediting
  • Layout of text and graphics
  • Proof-reading and print production

How the project was received

“We enlisted Elevate Scientific to support our preparations for an evaluation by the Novo Nordisk Foundation that included the preparation of written materials (a self-evaluation report, strategy document, and the supporting appendices) as well as a site visit with a panel of international scientific peers. Support by Elevate included guiding us in a framing workshop, advising on the focus of the content, developing the layout and graphics, and providing editorial support. The result was three high quality publications and presentation quality graphics documenting the eight years of the Center’s activities, all materials that brought positive feedback. Elevate's support combined a deep understanding of the scientific process with strong science communications skills. Importantly, communication with the Elevate team was always professional, fast, and comprehensive, creating a great working relationship.
We are happy to highly recommend Elevate to colleagues and have already used Elevate's expertise and services in other projects.”
